QATAR
On 14 July 2012, two 700 m² grass fields were sown on the outskirts of Barwa, a neighborhood in the city of Doha (Qatar):
One field was planted using Secalflor panels and a control field was planted under normal grass cover conditions according to Al Nakheel Corporation.
By day 13 after sowing, the field with the Secalflor panels already showed stronger, healthier growth to the field without panels. On day 20 after sowing, the first mowing took place, resulting in 70% more biomass in the field with the Secalflor panels. From day 36 after sowing to day 103 after sowing, the positive effects of the panels continued to increase, reaching more than 16 times the amount of biomass compared to the regular field. The biomass can be used, among other things, for animal feed.
Our pilot project in BARWA City has demonstrated that Secalflor panels enable stronger and better plant growth while simultaneously saving water and fertiliser.
Up to 70% less water was required for irrigation, and no fertiliser was used at all. Stronger root growth, healthier greenery, and increased biomass were clear indicators of the effectiveness, which were visible even to the naked eye.
The project was fully monitored and controlled by the Al Nakheel Corporation.
Secalflor panels are a technology with particular advantages for desert regions. Tree and palm plantings develop stronger and healthier root growth. The conversion of desert soils into green meadows, erosion control along desert roads, roadside planting to prevent sand transport and erosion, the conversion of oil-contaminated soils, and the conversion of soils with high salinity are specific topics addressed by this technology.
